Parkfield Through the Ages

1963 - Potters Bar

Three separate small surgeries unite to commission a new dedicated medical centre for the town to give the community the best care in General Practice.

They name the new medical centre "Parkfield".

1970s

  • CT–Scans are introduced to the health service
  • General Practice expands services offered to patients and embraces vocational medical training
  • Appointment systems are modernised

1980s

  • Modern vaccination programmes improve child health
  • Blood tests available at the surgery. Breast screening programmes are launched.

1990s

  • A new, much larger Parkfield Medical Centre is born
  • More rooms and more facilities
  • Computerisation of practice records starts
  • Out-of-hours GP Services are created

2003

  • Surgery extended providing extra rooms
  • New rooms used by: Parkfield Patients Group; Chiropody; Physiotherapy; Chiropractor; Counselling
  • Parkfield becomes a Training Practice for junior doctors and medical students

2010

  • Surgery enlargement for extra facilities
  • 5 New Consulting Rooms
  • The First Surgery in Hertsmere with Speed-Lift access to upper floor
  • Touch-screen reception system
  • Internet booking and access expanded
  • Patient communications systems
